This satellite session will focus on the shifting priorities for hospitals and clinical laboratories in the context of COVID-19 testing, HIV patient management and immune monitoring in LMIC.
Our first speaker will focus on clinical outcomes in retrospective and prospective studies of HIV patients who present with moderate to severe COVID-19 infection. Overall HIV infected patients show improved COVID-19 outcomes but detailed studies in this patient population have been limited.
Our second featured speaker will focus on COVID-19 testing and the challenges that the HIV molecular laboratory in Johannesburg faced with the pandemic. This laboratory was challenged with addressing community needs for HIV patients and balancing rapid COVID-19 molecular testing.
Our third speaker will focus on the acute care setting and triaging of patients that present with COVID-19. Automated flow cytometry testing was utilized to predict COVID-19 severity and patient stratification with immune monitoring.
