This session will review the lack of diversity among HIV researchers, particularly in positions of academic leadership, in terms of race, ethnicity, and other groups typically underrepresented in medicine. The session will focus on the United States but will have applications more broadly. We will discuss the benefits of increased diversity, highlighting its importance for innovation, impact, and justice. We will present multiple mechanisms through which greater diversity can be achieved at the institutional level and within funding agencies. Conference attendees who are leading or participating in similar programs are encouraged to attend to share best practices, as are those who would like to develop diversity initiatives. Speakers will include: Jessica Haberer, MD, MS- Associate Professor, Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital Monica Gandhi, MD, MPH- Professor of Medicine, University of California San Francisco John Sauceda, PhD, MSc- Assistant Professor of Medicine, University of California San Francisco
