Cryptococcal meningitis (CM) contributes up to 15% of HIV-related mortality and is the leading cause of HIV-related meningitis in many African LMICs. However access to key commodities including the life-saving medicine, flucytosine, is poor in most resource-limited settings. This session will focus on the current status of supply and demand work for cryptococcal meningitis and prepare the ground for new treatment strategies and technologies. Global health funders including PEPFAR, Unitaid and implementing partners (CHAI, EGPAF), Ministries of Health, MSF, CDC Foundation and civil society, will provide key updates. New trial data including from the EDCTP-funded Ambition-Cm trial will be presented, and evaluation of new treatment strategies and key programmatic gaps highlighted. CDC will present a collaborative initiative to end deaths from crypto by 2030. The session will also brainstorm how gaps in supply and demand work for crypto can be urgently addressed.
