Co-Chairs:

This session will be conducted in Spanish and Portuguese only. Building on the IAS Educational Fund regional meetings that took place in the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region this session will focus on making up time for advancing the HIV agenda in the post-pandemic era. The COVID-19 pandemic postponed the scaling up of HIV interventions, and this was more accentuated in low and middle income countries. It is urgent to start resuming affected activities and services now, as the epidemiological situation allows it at each country.
The session will cover the current situation in LAC regarding HIV combined prevention, testing, ART coverage, and barriers to access health services as well as retention in the continuum of care. Panelists will explore the challenges and opportunities of getting back on track of the HIV targets and opportunities to adopt innovations to accelerate the HIV response.
A group of public health experts, providers, and community representative will discuss these topics addressing the limitations, advantage and parallelism between SARS-CoV-2 and HIV in terms of stigma and discrimination, access and service delivery. For IAS Members and people in their networks not attending IAS 2021, the meeting will be broadcast on the IAS 2021 LIVE website: https://www.ias2021.org/live-sessions/#tab-id-1
