By June 2020, 26 million people were accessing antiretroviral therapy out of an estimated 38 million living with HIV. In this session, we will explore novel drugs in the pipeline to address the global demand and assess whether ART can help achieve the 90-90-90 targets.

How can ART help to achieve the 90-90-90 targets? This was the main topic of this on-demand session.

HIGHLIGHTS

Dr. Pedro Cahn carries out an analysis of ART as a bridge for achieving 90-90-90 goals. We know that ART saves lifes, we know that treatment IS prevention (TasP is TisP!) and testing and retention are absolutely linked to ARV access. The speaker highlights the concept of U=U and its importance as a barrier against discrimination. Subsequently, he showed the effectiveness of same-day-treatment, resulting in more patients with undetectable viral load, more patients in retention in care and more lives saved. Finally, he raised the question, what is needed to achieve these goals. We have no more time to waste, ART is a bridge to achieve 90-90-90 goals and should be accessible everywhere.

CRITICAL ASSESSMENT

Countries must work hard to reach 90-90-90 goals and gaining equal access to ART. We still have a high percentage of late presenters, especially in LMICs, an issue that must be assessed. Ultimate action is required now!
