Shifting the paradigm to holistic health, and ensuring the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of women living with and vulnerable to HIV (rather than for example focusing on eliminating infection or transmission) can both expand opportunities to integrate other important services (such as screening and vaccination for Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and early detection of cervical cancer) as well as strengthen essential treatment, care and support for HIV.

Linkages can create bidirectional synergies in policy, programmes and service delivery that support comprehensive provision for SRHR needs and rights within a framework of gender equality and human rights. This includes attention to contraceptive choices, including short- and long-acting methods, as well as supportive and non-stigmatizing counselling around intimacy, relationships and contraception. Services for sex- and gender-based violence is also an integral component of comprehensive and quality services, especially for some key and vulnerable key populations, such as sex workers and transgender women, and women living with HIV.
